As someone who has been evaluating air fryers for several years, people frequently ask me which is the best air fryer review and if they should buy an air fryer (yes!), and which models I suggest. The answer differs since everyone has various demands, and the air fryer industry is far more diversified than you may expect. But I can tell you which equipment I use the most…
Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 Air Fryer
My Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 is one of my favorite kitchen appliances since it is more than simply an air fryer. Oh no, this muscular beauty is capable of much more than delivering crispy fries. I’ve tried most of the current air fryer models from all of the big brands, and the Philips Airfryer XXL is a regular go-to answer when I need some chips done just how I want them and fried quickly.
However, as I said in my 5-star Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 review, the advantage of this machine is that, while it is happy to cook frozen or from scratch using real potatoes, it can also prepare a variety of other meals. The Tefal Actify Genius XL 2in1 is an all-in-one machine that can also produce ‘runny’ foods like curries, casseroles, and stir-fries. That’s why, in my opinion, it’s the greatest air fryer available – and I’ve tried dozens of them.
Sure, it’s difficult to blame the cheap Tower 10-in-1 Air Fryer Xpress Pro Combo’s great value and performance, with its ability to air fry and cook everything to perfection. There’s even a rotisserie! Similarly, while I like Tefal’s flexibility, I have yet to fully explore all of the features and capabilities of the much-lauded Ninja Foodi SmartLid series, which can also do a little bit of everything.
IS THE TEFAL ACTIFRY GENIUS XL 2IN1 DURABLE AND DEPENDABLE?
That is one of the key reasons I continue to use it. The Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 has been on the market for a while, and it is not the cheapest machine available. Tefal, on the other hand, has done an excellent job with the design, which has stayed almost untouched from its first introduction. The bulbous style is a little odd from the normally square box look of most air fryers, but it definitely sets it apart.
The Tefal Actifry Genius XL 2in1 is likewise well-made, and in the few years I’ve had it, it has never failed and none of its component components or attachments have broken. Given how much it’s been used, it actually looks very well. Much of it is due to the ease with which you can remove the lid and wash it in hot soapy water, as well as the nonstick metal cooking container inside and the plastic paddle that works tirelessly to ensure your food is cooked to perfection.
COSORI Pro II Air Fryer Oven Combo, 5.8QT Max Xl
Though it is not the cheapest air fryer on our list, the Cosori Air Fryer is a wonderful buy: it is simple, quick to use, and can serve a full family without breaking the bank. It boasts a 5.8-quart square basket, which provides enough of the cooking area when compared to circular rivals. The basket is detachable and lightweight, with several vents for improved air circulation. The control panel is pre-programmed with optimum cooking temperatures and timings, as well as a preheat option. If none of the presets are a great fit, the Cosori Air Fryer can be operated manually.
The Cosori scored highly for usability in our testing, and over 69,000 Amazon five-star reviews concur. It also produced tasty fresh fries and wings. Frozen fries took nearly 10 minutes less time than the manufacturer’s directions, so keep an eye on what you’re cooking. During cooking, steam flowed out of the air fryer, causing condensation to form on the drawer (it did not seem to affect results).
Ninja AF161 Max XL Air Fryer
This 5.5-quart basket-style Ninja Air Fryer Max XL was the best performance in our air fryer test. It scored high marks for overall use due to its intuitive, easy-to-read buttons and clear and thorough owner’s manual. During our tests, the air fryer basket went in and out with ease, making handling a breeze.
We appreciate how the basket features a detachable tray and a sleek, ceramic liner that makes it nonstick. The tray also sits firmly and securely on the basket’s bottom, so there’s no fear of it falling out when you turn the food out onto a plate. Both the basket and tray are dishwasher safe and easy to clean, even if you prefer to hand wash them.
The Ninja Air Fryer Max XL has the best performance and is also the easiest to use. It served frozen and homemade fries that were crispy and consistently fried, as well as tasty chicken wings on the inside. The model we tested has a broiling rack for even speedier and juicier results, as well as an easy method for making melty cheese.
It also features a variety of cook modes, each with its own set of maximum and lowest temperatures, such as Max Crisp and Air Broil (which reach 450°F) and dehydrate (which reach 105°F), enabling you to achieve a variety of cooking effects. Another odd aspect is the timer, which counts down to the second.
For increased capacity, consider the Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 2-Basket Air Fryer. It works in the same way as the Air Fryer Max XL, but with greater versatility. Because each individual basket is smaller and takes up less space in the dishwasher, we enjoy it for one-person dinners.
Instant Vortex Plus 6-Quart Air Fryer Oven
Since we started analyzing air fryers from Instant, the same company that makes Instant Pot multicookers, they have been on our list of best air fryers. The ones we tried, including this one, are easy to program and efficient. This one is unique for its see-through glass construction, which allows you to glance inside without having to pull out the basket. It also has a light that may be turned on manually or automatically immediately before the timer ends.
In only 20 minutes, this 6-quart Clear Cook model produced crispy, golden, and juicy chicken wings. Frozen fries are also cooked evenly and without wobbling throughout. This air fryer has an integrated heating element that takes around 3 1/2 minutes to reach 400°F and chirps when it’s ready to cook.
Once it preheats, you don’t need to click Start again if you want to put your food in from the beginning and walk away. If the food has to be shaken or turned in while cooking, it will also let you know at that point. You can configure the temperature and time quickly using the knob on the digital control panel, which is pretty speedy. It has six pre-programmed cooking modes, including Air Fry, Bake, Roast, Reheat, Broil, and Dehydrate, with suggested (but adjustable) temperatures and timings.
The square basket broadens the surface area for cooking, is easy to remove and handle, and fits securely in the dishwasher. In contrast to the Cosori and Philips air fryers, which have separate baskets that are stored within drawers, this air fryer has a removable tray, which we find to be more convenient to clean.
Is air frying healthy?
Since air frying employs convection cooking rather than deep-fat frying and produces food with less fat and calories, it is a healthier choice. However, there are certain disadvantages to air frying, therefore it must be included in a healthy diet. In our article “Is Air Frying Healthy?” you may learn more about the air fryer’s reputation for health.
Can you actually do fat-free frying in air fryers, or do you need oil?
Unless you’re okay with your food being incredibly dry, you do need some oil, but substantially less than if you were attempting to get the same results in a skillet on the stove. Fortunately, the majority of frozen battered meals will already have enough oil on them to avoid needing any more oil, however, if you intend to air fry veggies, you’ll want to add a little bit.
Depending on how many Brussels sprouts I was cooking, I used one to two tablespoons of olive oil, which was far less than I would have used if I had been pan-frying them or roasting them on a sheet pan. Better still, the majority of the basket-style air fryer baskets and trays have a nonstick coating, which further reduces the need for additional oil.
WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF AN AIR FRYER?
There are many cooking modes available on many air fryers. Your kitchen worktops will have much more adaptability if you choose items that let you bake, roast, dehydrate, reheat, and even slow cook.
Can we bake in Airfryer?
Foods may also be baked in an air fryer. By making meals in the air fryer rather than the oven, you may save time. It’s a great alternative as well if you only want to bake a limited quantity of cookies at once or don’t want to use the oven during the hot summer months.
